Mahela Jayawardene to retire from T20Is

Mirpur, Mar 17: Sri Lanka's former captain Mahela Jayawardene will retire from Twenty20 Internationals after the ICC World Twenty20 2014 tournament in Bangladesh.

On Monday, Jayawardene announced that he will be joining his team-mate Kumar Sangakkara in T20I retirement.

Yesterday, Sangakkara had said he will bid adieu to the shortest form of internationals after World T20, which began on Sunday.

The 36-year-old Jayawardene has played 49 T20Is for Sri Lanka and has scored 1,335 runs with one hundred and eight half centuries.

Sri Lanka face India in a warm-up game today. For the World T20, Sri Lanka are in Group 1 with England, South Africa, New Zealand and a qualilfier. They start campaign on March 22 against South Africa.
