Chittagong, Mar 18: India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is yet to bat in the ICC World Twenty20 2014 but his "Helicopter Shot" has already landed here!
Yes, fans here at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Tuesday, were treated to the "Helicopter Shot" not by the Indian skipper but by a batsman from Afghanistan, who is a fan and friend of Dhoni.
Dhoni is referred to as "MS", his initials and Shahzad too is given that name by his teammates for his ability to replicate Indian's batting style.
Mohammad Shahzad, the 26-year-old wicketkeeper-opening batsman unveiled the trademark Dhoni "Helicopter Shot" during his 53-ball 68 knock against Hong Kong in the World T20 qualifier today. His innings took Afghanistan to seven-wicket victory and also won him the Man-of-the-match award.
Shahzad's Dhoni shot came on the first ball of the 13th over off Aizaz Khan. It was a free-hit and Shahzad was quick to show the chopper to the crowd and it landed outside the boundary. That six was a 77-metre hit.
It was a carbon copy shot of Dhoni. For many, it was replica of the Indian captain's stance and the shot. Many wondered, who's shot was better, Dhoni or Shahzad?
