Mirpur, Mar 18: For many, it was surprising not to see India captain MS Dhoni bat in the ICC World Twenty20 warm-up game against Sri Lanka on Monday night. However, the skipper did not arrive at the batting crease due to a "small niggle" and there is nothing to worry.
Chasing 154, India lost the game by five runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. Suresh Raina (41) and Yuvraj Singh (33) batted well in the run-chase but could not overcome Lasith Malinga's four-wicket effort.
Later, speaking at the post-match presentation, Dhoni revealed that he did not want to risk a small niggle in the right hand.
"I had a small niggle in my right hand a couple of days back, so we had the luxury of giving it rest for a few more days. We still have one more practice game before the proper matches start, so there's no point risking it. Also, it gave me an opportunity to give other batsmen a fair chance," Dhoni said after the narrow defeat.
Dhoni and his men will be back on the field tomorrow for one final warm-up game before the real test of World T20 on Friday. They face arch rivals Pakistan in the opener.
