Mumbai, Mar 21: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had promised to ban cheerleaders from the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 7). But, the Indian cricket board has gone back on it and the cheer girls are set to be at the stadiums when IPL 7 gets under way on April 16.
According to a report in "Mumbai Mirror" on Friday, the franchises have been told to have their cheer girls squad ready. "Yes, there will be cheer leaders," Raghu Iyer, the CEO of Rajasthan Royals, was quoted as saying in the report.
After controversies in IPL 6, BCCI had, among many other moves, decided not to have cheerleaders. But IPL chairman Ranjib Biswal claimed cheer girls were not banned. "When were they banned from IPL," Biswal asked.
During the Champions League T20 last year, there were no cheerleaders, as decided by BCCI.
