Chandigarh, Apr 7: Angry with Yuvraj Singh's slow batting in the ICC World Twenty20 2014 final against Sri Lanka on Sunday, fans pelted stone at his house.

According to reports late on Sunday night, Yuvraj's Chandigarh residence was the target of irate fans after India lost the final to Sri Lanka in Mirpur.

"Police immediately rushed to the cricketer's home to pacify the angry crowd that had gathered outside," a report on "DNA" newspaper's website said.

Sri Lanka defeated India by six wickets to win the World T20 title. India were restricted to 130/4 in 20 overs and the Islanders achieved the victory in 17.5 overs.

Yuvraj had a forgettable day, scoring just 11 off 21 balls. His failure to score quickly and rotate the strike led to a huge criticism on the micro-blogging site Twitter.

Upset fans blasted Yuvraj on Twitter. While some of them defended the left-hander, many were seen venting their ire at the batsman.

Yuvraj's friend and former teammate Harbhajan Singh supported him and expressed "shock" over the reactions.

"Shocking to c every1 blaming @yuvstrong12. Guys this man has won u 2wc's. One of the rare match winners india has produced," tweeted Harbhajan.

"From 1st 19wc to natwest to 2007t20 to 2011wc. Find me a player who has done so much in big matches. 1 bad day n we become so bitter," he wrote in another tweet. "N pls don't forget he wasn't there alone. 10 others were there too. Let's admit better team won. Why to find a scapegoat. It's a team game."

Former India opener Aakash Chopra also called for calm and slammed the incident of stone pelting.

"What if your day jobs were scrutinised by a billion people and every failure led to your house getting vandalised... #think #behave #growup," Chopra tweeted.
