In a media release, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) announced on Friday night that Patel was chosen for the position. Sandeep Patil was the previous director and since he became the chairman of selection committee in October, 2012, the position was vacant.
"We are very happy to announce that Mr. Brijesh Patel has been appointed as the Director of National Cricket Academy (NCA, Bangalore). KSCA congratulates him and wishes him all the very best in his new assignment," said Vinay Mruthunjaya, official spokesperson of KSCA.
Patel is currently serving as the secretary of KSCA. He and his team swept back to power in Karnataka in December last year.
This is a comeback for Patel at the Bangalore-based NCA, which is located in the M Chinnaswamy Stadium premises. He was the director between 2001 and 2004 when the academy was launched.
The 61-year-old Patel played 21 Tests and 10 One Day Internationals for India between 1974 and 1979.
