Bangalore, May 20: Describing Karnataka's young batsman KL Rahul as "serious class", South Africa paceman Dale Steyn feels he is destined to play for India.

Steyn and Rahul are currently team-mates at Sunrisers Hyderabad in the ongoing IPL 7. Rahul has not had a good outing in IPL but had scored over 1,000 runs in Ranji Trophy this season for Karnataka.

Writing in "The Times of India", Steyn heaped praise on Rahul and tipped him to play for India under the leadership of MS Dhoni "at some point".

"Karnataka youngster KL Rahul is, in my opinion, a man destined to play for India. He hasn't quite scored the runs he would have liked this year, but I've seen a few batsmen in my career and he is serious class," Steyn wrote.

"I don't believe in curses or jinxes which is why I'm happy to express my opinion about him. It may not happen this year, or even next yer, but I expect him to play for his country under skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni at some point," he added.

The 22-year-old Rahul has played for India Under-19 and Under-23 teams. He was one of the stars of Karnataka's Ranji Trophy winning campaign this year.

Rahul was Karnataka's leading run-score in Ranji Trophy season this year with 1,033 runs in 17 innings.

In 23 first-class matches, has scored 1,663 runs at an average of 47.51 with four hundreds.
