Uthappa, who plays for Kolkata Knight Riders, has been in great form in IPL 7. So far, he has scored 486 runs in 12 matches including four half centuries. He has scores of 40 and above in seven successive innings.
Last night too, he continued his good run of form as he struck a 39-ball 67 to guide KKR to victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Having closely watched Uthappa at Eden Gardens in yesterday's match, Raina said he was batting really well.
"He is batting really well. He is hitting the ball well. I hope he continues like that and hopefully he gets a chance to play for India as well," Raina told IPL's official website today.
"He is in good form right now and most importantly there are some very important series coming up after the IPL and he is in good nick. He hasn't played for some time for India, and I wish him all the best and hope he makes it to the Indian team and performs well for India too," the left-hander added.
The 28-year-old Uthappa has played 38 ODIs, 11 T20Is for India. His last appearance in India colours was on March 30, 2012, in a T20I against South Africa in Johannesburg.
