Mumbai, May 28: Gautam Gambhir has been recalled to the Indian Test squad for the tour of England in July and August. However, senior paceman Zaheer Khan has been dropped.
Left-handed Gambhir last played a Test for India in 2012 and has been out of the national team from early last year. His last ODI for India was in January, 2013.
The selectors, who met today in Mumbai, picked an 18-man squad which also includes allrounder Stuart Binny and Ishwar Pandey as the new faces for the five-day format. Paceman Pankaj Singh has also been recalled by the Sandeep Patil-led selection panel.
MS Dhoni will lead the squad after being rested for the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh in Dhaka this month.
India will play five Tests against England. The first Test starts at Trent Bridge on July 9. The fifth and final Test is at The Oval from August 15. This is the first time that India will play a five-Test rubber in England.
After the Test series, India will played five ODIs and one Twenty20 International from August 25 to September 7.
