Bangalore, May 30: Do you know which is the most popular IPL team on Twitter? Not surprisingly it is the same franchise which has been the most consistent over the seven years - Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
CSK's official Twitter account boasts of over 7 lakh followers till today and are more than 1,50,000 followers ahead of their closest rival - Mumbai Indians (MI).
Defending champions MI have over 5.57 lakh followers on this micro-blogging site. The third place is occupied by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) with over 4.91 lakh followers.
Also on Twitter, CSK fans most often tweet with the team's catchphrase "Whistle Podu" (meaning blow the whistle). The #whistlepodu is mentioned in almost all tweets from CSK's official handle.
Outside the social media too, CSK franchise seems to be the most followed. They have a huge fan following. With already two IPL titles in their bag, they can add a third this year with two steps away from the trophy. And the popularity will continue to increase.
According to IPL's official website, this year, CSK is the second most trending team on Twitter with 2,86,609 tweets (as of today at 1PM). MI are on top with 4,04,822. The Mumbai outfit gained lot of tweets during that unbelievable run-chase against Rajasthan Royals few days ago to qualify for the playoffs. Over 4 million tweets have poured in for IPL 7.
CSK, led by MS Dhoni, will face Kings XI Punjab in Qualifier 2 of IPL 7 tonight in Mumbai. A win will put them in the final and a repeat meeting of 2012 title clash - against Kolkata Knight Riders on June 1 in Bangalore.
Back in 2012, KKR had defeated CSK in Chennai. KKR had shattered Chennai's dreaming of a hat-trick of titles.
