Bangalore, June 1: Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir has said he too would have decided to pick IPL final over playing Tests for the country, as done by his West Indies' teammate Sunil Narine.

Narine was to report to West Indies training camp for the Test series against New Zealand. However, he missed the deadline given by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and decided to stay back in India to play the IPL 7 final tonight against Kings XI Punjab.

IPL over country: Gambhir says yes

With his decision to pick IPL over country, many in the cricketing world are divided. However, Gambhir has said he made the right decision.

"He (Sunil Narine) has taken a right decision to continue playing for KKR because the team has reached the finals and one game away. No player would like to skip that. If I was there in his position, I would have done the same," Gambhir said here yesterday.

"Narine had been in discussions with the WICB and was required to inform the Board by May 24 whether he will join the squad currently in training in Barbados June 1," said a statement from WICB released on Friday.

"Narine had indicated by the May 24 deadline that he will join the squad June 1 as required. Narine subsequently told the WICB Wednesday that he would not be able to meet the June 1 requirement," WICB added.
