Michael Clarke opts out of BBL

Sydney, July 3: Australia captain Michael Clarke has decided to skip this year's Big Bash League Twenty20 (BBL 4) due to huge international summer of cricket.

Clarke had also opted out of the Indian Premier League players' auction this year. The right-hander is part of Sydney Thunder in BBL. Clarke's unavailability was announced by the team on its website Thursday.

This year's BBL will be played from December 18, 2014 to January 28, 2015.

"Having looked at the fixture list for the upcoming summer it became apparent that my opportunities to play for the Thunder would be extremely limited. I think it is in the best interests of the club if I make myself unavailable for selection this season and allow the Thunder the chance to offer a contract to a younger player who would really benefit from the opportunity. I will continue to support the club and monitor the situation in future seasons regarding availability," Clarke was quoted as saying on Thunder's website today.

Clarke will have a hectic international schedule with four-Test series against India from November, ODI tri-series involving Australia, India and England early next year before the start of ICC World Cup 2015 at home in February.
