The 22-year-olds Marsh and Whiteman came together yesterday with Australia A 99/6 and resumed play today at 126/6. The partnership ended at 470/7 having set the second-highest partnership for the seventh wicket in first-class cricket history.
India A bowlers struggled to separate the pair. Finally, they got success through the part-time spin of Karun Nair. Left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha toiled hard for 35 overs for a lone wicket, conceding 163 runs (4.65 runs per over). Paceman Jasprit Bumrah had 4/128 from 39 overs.
The pair batted through the first two sessions without the loss of a wicket as they continued Australia A's rescue mission and recorded their own personal milestones. Whiteman raised his bat for his maiden first-class century before finally departing for 174 off Nair.
Marsh celebrated his first double-ton in style, smashing a six to bring up the milestone. He was eventually run out for 211 with only five overs remaining in the day.
Ben Cutting wasted no time adding to Australia's total. He hit the first ball to the boundary and made a quick-fire 11 from 14 balls before being bowled by Bumrah.
At the close of play, the not out batsmen for Australia A are Cameron Boyce (16) and Chadd Sayers (3).
