Bangalore, July 19: India's top players will be seen in action at the Dr (Captain) K Thimmappaiah Memorial All India Invitation Cricket Tournament organised by Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) in Bangalore and Mysore from July 20 to August 15.
All matches will be for four-day duration and will see 16 teams drawn from all over the country battling for top honours. The host association KSCA have included 3 teams for the competition while there is a side from National Cricket Academy (NCA).
The teams are divided into four groups and the topper from each pool will qualify for semi-finals.
Abhishek Nayar-led Mumbai Cricket Association, Baroda Cricket Association, Harayana CA, Himachal CA, Andhra CA, Goa CA, Kerala CA, Assam CA, Tripura CA, Odisha CA, Cricket Association of Bengal and Dr DY Patil side are the others in the fray.
This is the only tournament in the country which has matches of four-day duration other than the Ranji Trophy. This competition will serve as a preparation for this year's Ranji Trophy, organisers said.
"The tournament will be played on the lines of the Ranji Trophy to provide ample opportunites to tricketers to accustom themselves to the Ranji Trophy format. The only shift from the Ranji Trophy rule wil be the penalty for slow over rate, which will be six runs per over in this tournament unlike monetary penalty," KSCA said in a media release.
The matches will be played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, RSI, Alur, RWF, Aditya and BGS grounds in Bangalore. The Mysore leg of matches will be played at Gangothri Glades and JNSC grounds.
