KPL 2014: List of players sold - Uthappa tops, Joshi surprise pick

Bangalore, Aug 7: As expected, Robin Uthappa was the highest paid cricketer at the players' auction for the Karbonn Wadiyar Karnataka Premier League 2014 (KPL) Twenty20 tournament here on Thursday. Bellary Tuskers bought the wicketkeeper-batsman for Rs 530,000. However, the biggest surprise was all-rounder Aniruddha Joshi who pocketed Rs 4.05 lakhs from Mangalore United.

In all, 107 cricketers were sold out of the 158 available. The six franchises spent a total of approximately Rs 1.03 crores (1.2 crores funds available). KPL action begins in Mysore on August 28 and culminates on September 12 in Hubli. (Full Schedule)

KPL 2014: List of players sold

Two players R Vinay Kumar (Belagavi Panthers) and Karun Nair (Mangalore United) were retained ahead of the auction and they received 15 per cent more than their team's highest bid player. Vinay got Rs 4.6 lakhs while Karun took Rs 4.65 lakhs.

Karnataka's top cricketers were in Pool A and Uthappa emerged as the star out of the 28-man group. His Kolkata Knight Riders team-mate Manish Pandey went to Mysore Warriors for Rs 310,000. Batsman Bharat Chipli attracted a bid of Rs 400,000 from Belagavi Panthers.

The second highest bid after Uthappa from Pool A was for paceman Abhimanyu Mithun, who was picked by Bijapur Bulls for Rs 500,000. (Also read: How the auction works)

The major surprise of the auction was the 26-year-old Joshi, who was part of Pool B players. Joshi, who has not first-class cricket experience, was picked by Mangalore for Rs 4.05 lakhs. The off-spinning all-rounder has played 5 Twenty20s for Karnataka.

Karnataka State Cricket Association secretary Brijesh Patel announced at the auction that all players will get a 25 per cent additional money from the state association.
