Gavaskar escapes unhurt in car accident

London, Aug 12: Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar escaped unhurt in a road accident in England on Sunday (August 10), media reports said today.

Gavaskar, who is currently in England to commentate on the ongoing India-England Test series, was travelling in a Jaguar car from Manchester to London.

He was heading to London after the completion of the fourth Test at Old Trafford. Gavaskar's car driver had to suddenly swerve to the right in a bid to avoid a collision with another vehicle coming from the opposite direction in heavy rain.

Gavaskar was seated on the back seat with his London-based friend Chandresh Patel. The former captain was on the left side of the car. English commentator Mark Nicholas was also in the vehicle, on the front seat beside the driver, "NDTV" report said.

"My God! God has saved us. There was torrential rain and our car was being driven very fast. Thankfully, no one was hurt although the accident was very, very scary," Gavaskar told "Mid-Day".

After the accident, Gavaskar, Patel and Nicholas abandoned the car journey and took a train to London, the report added.
