London, Aug 18: Many have blamed the Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 tournament for India's Test failures abroad. With the latest drubbing in England yesterday (August 17), IPL is back in focus. But India captain MS Dhoni has defended it and asked them not to "get jealous" of IPL.
Indian batsmen were once again humiliated inside three days at The Oval on Sunday (August 17). After winning the Lord's Test and taking a 1-0 lead, India squandered the advantage and lost three successive Tests to hand the series 3-1 to the hosts.
In the post-match press conference, Dhoni was asked questions on his future as India's Test captain and also whether Indian players should skip IPL and prepare for Test cricket in county circuit. While the wicketkeeper-batsman said "wait and watch" on his captaincy, he had this to say on skipping IPL for Test preparations, "Ask the BCCI about it. And don't get jealous of IPL."
Former India captain Bishan Singh Bedi, a strong critic of the T20 league, tweeted soon after India's defeat yesterday that IPL was the cause for the "destruction" of India's Test team.
I'm constrained 2 remark--rejoice all ye IPL suckers,U've got what U wanted, destruction of India's Test standing....!!— Bishan Bedi (@BishanBedi) August 17, 2014

Dhoni, who captains Chennai Super Kings in IPL, has enjoyed great success in the format. And is also one of the best leaders in the limited overs game. But he has struggled to replicate the same in the five-day version.
