The owners announced today that the 32-year-old right-handed off-spinning all-rounder will lead the side that also includes star batsman Robin Uthappa. Raghu was bought in the auction for Rs 10,000.
"We have appointed C Raghu as the captain of the team. He is experienced and has won a T20 tournament captaining the Karnataka side," team owner Arvind Venkatesh Reddy said here today.
When queried why Uthappa was not considered, he said it would put pressure on the opener. "We want Robin Uthappa to concentrate on his batting. Captaincy will be an added pressure on him," Reddy said.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Devraj Patil will be Raghu's deputy. Tuskers open their campaign on September 30 against Bijapur Bulls in Mysore.
KPL gets under way on August 28. The final is on September 12.
Meanwhile, Tuskers' owners have announced that they will sponsor five talented cricketers from mofussil areas of Karnataka for one full year.
Also, the owners today announced they would plant trees in Bangalore after the completion of KPL. They will multiply the Tuskers' total runs in KPL by 10 times and would plant the same number of trees in the city.
