KPL Match 3: Samarth powers Bulls to win

Mysore, Aug 30: Opener R Samarth's 13-ball 32 (4x4, 2x6) helped Bijapur Bulls win the rain-hit game by seven wickets via the Duckworth/Lewis method against Bellary Tuskers in the Karbonn Smart Karnataka Premier League 2014 (KPL) today.

Chasing a revised target of 86 off 10 overs, Samarth gave the Bulls a blazing start. The Bulls smashed 22 runs off the opening over from Mohammed Niyas Nizar and then on it was an easy run-chase in the third game of KPL at the Gangothri Glades. Samarth-Dikshanshu Negi pair raced to 50 in 4.5 overs.

Originally, Bulls had required 146 off 20 overs. But rain delayed the start of their innings. Bulls chased down 86 for the loss of three wickets with 10 balls to spare.

Bellary Tuskers 145/8; Nischal 50

D Nischal struck a half century as Bellary Tuskers posted 145/8 in 20 overs. With rain delaying the start of Bulls innings, the Duckworth/Lewis target was 86 runs off 10 overs.

Tuskers, without the league's costliest player Robin Uthappa, who will miss two games due to a niggle, were off to a disastrous start when openers Mayank Agarwal and Gaurav Dhiman were back in the pavilion with just 6 runs on the board in 1.5 overs.

With 10 AM start, Bulls captain Deepak Chougule opted to field first after winning the toss and his decision was vindicated by his new ball bowlers.

Agarwal was dismissed for just 1 run while Dhiman got out for 4. Number three batsman Nischal and captain C Raghu did the repair work with a 49-run partnership for the third wicket.

Nischal hit 5 fours on way to his 49-ball 50 while Raghu made 26 off 19 with 3 fours and 1 six.

New ball pair of Abhishek Bhat and Abhimanyu Mithun shared five wickets between them for the Bulls. Mithun had figures of 2/17 and Bhat with 3/26 in four-over spells each. Bhat dismissed both Agarwal and Dhiman in the same over, second of the innings.

Both teams are playing their first game in this edition of the league.

Bulls' run chase was delayed due to rain.
