Bangalore, Sep 6: Young Vyshak Vijay Kumar starred with the ball as Mysore Warriors held their nerve to edge Belagavi Panthers by 6 runs (Duckworth/Lewis method) in the Karbonn Smart Karnataka Premier League (KPL) here tonight.
Mysore's innings was halted by rain after the 19 overs. With a delay of over 40 minutes, Mysore's innings ended at 19 overs with the score on 169/5. Belagavi Panthers were set a target of 133 in 14 overs according to Duckworth/Lewis method.
Bharath Chipli gave Panthers a good start and in the end M Nidhish and Suneel Raju took them closer but was not enough. Vyshak bowled the final over when 15 runs were needed for Panthers to win. Captain R Vinay Kumar was at the crease but the 17-year-old held his nerve to defend the runs.
Vyshak returned with figures of 4/20 including two wickets in two balls in his second over where he removed Rohan Kadam and Chipli in successive deliveries. Nidhish played out the hat-trick ball.
The youngest player in KPL, Vyshak bagged his second consecutive four-wicket haul. He had 4/21 against Rockstars on his debut in Mysore. For the second match in a row, Vyshak picked up the Man-of-the-match award.
This was Mysore's 3rd win in four games while Panthers suffered third defeat in five, making it difficult to reach the last four with one game left in Hubli.
