"This is my first game as a match referee. It is a new challenge," Johnson told ThatsCricket today at the stadium.

Earlier this week in Bangalore, Johnson cleared BCCI's exam for match referees. The match referees were trained by former international umpire Simon Taufel.

"I have cleared the exam conducted by the BCCI. Simon Taufel was here to train us. It was very good interacting with him," Johnson said.

The 42-year-old Johnson hopes to become a match referee at the international level. Apart from this new innings, Johnson said he will continue to coach youngsters. He runs an academy in Bangalore.

Johnson played two Tests for India in 1996. He made his debut in Delhi against Australia. He took 3 wickets in four innings in his short international career.
