Melbourne, Sep 17: Kings XI Punjab's Australian paceman Mitchell Johnson will miss the start of the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) and is also in doubt for the rest of the tournament due to a rib injury, Cricket Australia (CA) said today.
According to CA's physiotherapist Alex Kountouris, "Mitch had some rib pain during the recent ODI tour of Zimbabwe. Since returning to Australia, he has had some scans that have confirmed some irritation of the tip of the rib."
"As such he has had a break from bowling since returning to Australia and is having regular treatment to resolve the problem.
"He has not fully recovered as yet and will be reviewed over the next week," he said.
CA's Executive General Manager Team Performance Pat Howard said: "Due to medical advice Mitch has not been released to play in the CLT20 tournament at this time. A decision on his release to play for the Kings XI will depend on how he responds to treatment."
Kings XI Punjab are making their CLT20 debut this year. They were the losing finalists to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in this edition's Indian Premier League (IPL 7).
Punjab are in Group B and will launch their campaign on Thursday (September 18) in Mohali against Australia's Hobart Hurricanes.
