Bangalore, Sep 20: It was one of the rare sights at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday evening (September 19) when India and Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni swapped his cricket bat with a badminton racquet.
Dhoni and his team-mates who are in the city for the CLT20 matches, began training at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday evening. They were greeted by rain but as the skies cleared, players assembled, kicking football and few batsmen had a hit in the 'nets'.
To start with, Dhoni was involved in a game of football with his team-mates before quietly heading off to the indoor badminton courts at the stadium. (Also read: Dhoni fights for biryani)
Dhoni played a couple of doubles matches with some of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) members and officials who were already sweating out at the courts.
The skipper was at his best, sending down few smashes and the few members at the courts applauded his badminton skills.
As he is at the batting crease, Dhoni was at ease on the wooden surface too. And, with his doubles partner, he won the game also.
The KSCA officials said it was not the first time Dhoni was on the badminton courts. "Whenever he is at the stadium, he plays badminton," said one of the officials.
Also, there have been few previous instances where Dhoni had let go his cricket bat to display his badminton game.
As the stadium lights got brighter in the evening, Dhoni was back to join his team-mates and resume cricket training.
On Monday (September 22), CSK will face Dolphins of South Africa in their second CLT20 league match. They will have two more matches in Banglaore, on September 25 (Vs Lahore Lions) and 27 (Vs Perth Scorchers).
