Bangalore, Nov 7: Arjun, son of Sachin Tendulkar, was so angry with one of his friends for making a comment on his dad that he "punched" him.
When India exited from the first round of ICC World Cup 2007, fans were very angry. And in one of the incidents in Mumbai, Arjun's friend said India had lost because of Sachin getting out for a duck.
Junior Tendulkar did not take the comment lightly despite being told by his mother Anjali not to react following the team's World Cup debacle. (Buy the book here)
In their Group B game against Sri Lanka in the Caribbean, India lost and were knocked out of the World Cup after the opening round. In that match, Tendulkar was out for 0, bowled by Dilhara Fernando. India lost by 69 runs while chasing 255.
The incident has got a mention in Tendulkar's autobiography "Playing It My Way".
"...Another example occurred soon after we had been knocked out of the World Cup in the Caribbean in March 2007. We had played poorly in the tournament and it was a low for the country," Tendulkar wrote.
"My family were aware that the repercussions of the first-round exit might reach the kids. As a precautionary measure, Anjali tried to explain to Arjun, who was seven years old at the time, that someone made a snide comment about his dad at schoool, he should ignore it; he should just say that it was disappointing and we would surely do better the next time.
"When a friend of his accosted him at school and said that India had lost because of his dad had got out for zero, our advice went out of his head and Arjun punched the boy and told him not to say anything bad about his father again," Tendulkar added.
