The 22-year-old Rahul was today picked in the Indian Test squad for the Australian tour. India will play four Tests, starting on December 4 in Brisbane.
Rahul, a right-handed opening batsman, has impressed with his technique, temperament and has scored lot of runs in the domestic competitions. At 22, Rahul is the youngest member of the current Indian Test squad. In 27 first-class matches, he has scored 2,100 runs at an average of over 50 with 6 centuries.
The Bangalore based boy recently hit centuries in both innings of the Duleep Trophy final for South Zone against East Zone. Rahul was part of Karnataka's hat-trick of titles last season - Ranji Trophy, Irani Cup and Vijay Hazare Trophy (one-dayers).
Dravid, who has seen Rahul from close quarters being from the same city, felt happy to see the youngster in the team.
"I am happy for him and I hope that he does well. He is in good form and has the technique to do well in Australia," Dravid told ThatsCricket today.
Many have already started comparing Rahul with the legendary Dravid. Recently, Rahul expressed happiness over being compared with Dravid.
"I feel happy when I am compared with him. As a child, I used to watch a lot of his batting and also Sachin's (Tendulkar). But It would be great if I can score the amount of runs Dravid has scored," Rahul had said recently.
Commenting on Robin Uthappa's comeback to the ODI side for the last two ODIs against Sri Lanka, Dravid said: "Great to also see Robin (Uthappa) has got a well deserved call up in the ODI side."
