Abdominal muscle tear forces White out of 3rd Test
Wednesday, August 14 2002 17:11 Hrs (IST)

London: All-rounder Craig White was on Tuesday ruled out of next week's third Test with India at Headingley after suffering an abdominal muscle tear during the drawn second Test at Trent Bridge.

The 32-year-old Yorkshire player, who hit an unbeaten 94 during the last Test, sustained the problem in Nottingham having only just reclaimed his place in the England squad for the previous Test at Lord's.

White underwent a scan on the problem on Tuesday which revealed an abdominal muscle tear, which is expected to sideline him for between two and four weeks - effectively ruling him out of the remainder of the Test series against India.

But England remain hopeful he will recover in time to fly out with the rest of the squad on September 12 to Colombo in Sri Lanka and take part in the ICC Champions' Trophy tournament.
