Having won the 3rd Test at the Leeds, India move on to the historic Oval to take on England in the 4th and final Test, which starts from 5 September 2002. India is brimming with confidence in the light of its fine showing at Leeds where England was humbled by an innings and 46 runs. Rather than individuals it was the team effort, which brought India the much sought after win particularly after the loss at Lords. Now that the series has been leveled, at this stage, India is favourite to win the series provided it overturns the table at the Oval. The win at Leeds and the excellent performance in the first class game against Derbyshire thereafter should give them enough strength and confidence to face England for the final time in the npower Test series. However it should not take any things lightly since England has won 2 matches against India as against one by India and the overall success percentage at this venue for England is a healthy 39.29% in the 84 Tests played at this venue out of which England has won 33 and lost only 18, the remaining 33 ending in draws. It was at this very venue India made history in 1971 when it first beat England in England and also achieved a series victory over England abroad. The heroics at that time were provided by Bhagwat Chandrasekhar who twisted the fortunes of the game with a nagging length and accuracy to take 6 for 38 and England crumbled like a pack of cards in its 2nd innings which paved way for India's win. | England's performance at The Oval | | | Pld | Won | Lost | Drawn | | Aus | 33 | 15 | 6 | 12 | | Ind | 8 | 2 | 1 | 5 | | NZ | 9 | 4 | 1 | 4 | | Pak | 7 | 2 | 3 | 2 | | SA | 11 | 4 | - | 7 | | SL | 1 | - | 1 | - | | WI | 15 | 6 | 6 | 3 | | | | | | | | Total | 84 | 33 | 18 | 33 |
