Dravid gets double ton: Test heads to draw
Sunday, September 8 2002 23:48 Hrs (IST)

London: England were 114 without loss in their second innings at the close of the fourth day's play in the fourth and final Test against India here Sunday with the match and the series headed for a likely draw.

England were 121 runs ahead after India scored 508 in reply to England's first innings total of 515. England's Marcus Trescothick was on 58 when play was stopped by bad light two overs early with his opening partner Michael Vaughan on 47.

Rahul Dravid top-scored for the tourists with a magnificent 217 before being run out after a mix-up with batting partner Ajay Ratra.

It was an tough blow for Dravid, who had spent ten and a half hours at the crease and needed only four more runs to equal Sunil Gavaskar's highest score for an Indian in a Test outside India.

There was some compensation, however, with Dravid become the first batsman to notch up 1,000 runs in 2002 as well as passing Gavaskar's record for the highest number of runs by an Indian in a series in England.
