Rain delays start of the final day of fourth Test
Monday, September 9 2002 17:17 Hrs (IST)

London: Rain delayed the scheduled start of the last day of the fourth and final Test between England and India here at The Oval on Monday.

A draw, the most probable outcome in this match and thus the series for some time, now looks even more likely.

England, should the weather relent, will resume on 114 without loss, a lead of 121 after India scored 508 in reply to the home side's first innings 515.

Marcus Trescothick is 58 not out and fellow opener Michael Vaughan 47 not out.

The series is level at 1-1 and it will take an extraordinary sequence of events on the final day for India to end its 16-year run without a Test series victory outside the sub-continent.
