India has a poor record of just one win at Lord's

Bangalore: India will be facing England in the first of the 4 Test series at Lord's from July 25. England has a win percentage of 36.27 in the 102 Tests played so far against all countries at Lord's, popularly known as the 'Mecca' of cricket grounds.

India has played 13 Tests here out of which it has won only once in 1986 when it also won the series, lost 9 and drawn the remaining 3 Tests.

Centuries:

A total of 165 centuries (including 9 double hundreds and 1 triple hundred) have come at Lord's out of which England's share is 81 and opponents' 84. Apart from Gooch's triple hundred and Bradman's double hundred as above, the other double centurions at this venue are W R Hammond, J B Hobbs, D S C Compton and J Hardstaff Jr of England, C G Greenidgse of West Indies, W A Brown of Australia, M P Donnelly of New Zealand and Mohsin Khan of Pakistan.

Those who have narrowly missed the distinction of scoring a double century are A R Border (196) and W Bardsley (193*) of Australia, Len Hutton (196) of England and S Wettimuni (190) of Sri Lanka.

Gooch has the distinction of scoring a triple hundred and a century in the same Test in 1990. India's Dilip Vengsarkar is the only one in the entire list of centurions to have scored 3 centuries in successive appearances at this venue in 1979, 1982 and 1986.

The other centurions for India are S C Ganguly (on debut in 1996), M Azharuddin, G R Viswanath and R J Shastri, Mankad has top scored for India as indicated above.

Among the Englishmen who have scored hundreds (other than indicated above) against India are D L Amiss, T W Graveney, L Hutton, A J Lamb, D W Randal, R C Russell, M H Denness, A W Greig, T G Evans and R A Smith.

Nineties:

There have been 33 instances of 90 plus scores including six instances of a batsman being dismissed at the score of 99. The unfortunate ones are E Payner, M J K Smith and M A Atherton of England, and C G McCartney, R Edwards and M E Waugh of Australia.

The only instance of a 90 plus score by an Indian at this venue is by Rahul Dravid who made 95 on debut in 1996.

For England apart from Bedser, the others to take 6 wickets in an innings against India are R Illingworth (6/29 in 1967) and RGD Willis (6/101 in 1982).

The other Englishmen who have taken 5 wickets in an innings against India are C M Old, G O B Allen, T Greenhough, I T Botham and A R C Fraser.
