India in with a good chance of winning Trophy: Borde
Tuesday, September 10 2002 17:33 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: The selection committee chairman Chandu Borde on Tuesday said the Indian cricketers have a very good chance of winning the ICC Champions Trophy scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka from September 12 to 30.

"After their fine showing at the NatWest triangular series, which also involved England and Sri Lanka, the Indians can be a threat to any of the other eleven teams in the fray," Borde said.

The Indians, who are placed in Pool-B, will play Zimbabwe and England on September 14 and 22 respectively in the league stage and then take on either South Africa or the West Indies in the semi-finals and in my opinion all the three teams are beatable as we are playing all the matches under floodlights," he added.

Asked whether he was relieved to see a full strength Indian team for the Colombo tournament, Borde said, "I was hopeful that the sponsorship issue would be settled amicably.

I am also happy that all concerned parties have come to a settlement."

"All the players in the present team are highly talented which is good for the future of Indian cricket and such talent would have been wasted if the full strength team had not represented the country," the former all-rounder added.
