Wednesday, September 18 2002 11:11 Hrs (IST)

Colombo: Star West Indian batsmen Brian Lara has been confirmed suffering from hepatitis. Lara has been advised two weeks of bed rest followed by four weeks of recovery time, agencies quoting hospital sources reported.

Lara was rushed to a hospital in Colombo soon after completing a century in West Indies' win against Kenya in the ongoing International Cricket Council Champions Trophy tournament on Tuesday.

Lara in all likelihood will miss the series against India, which is to follow soon after the Champions Trophy ends in Sri Lanka. The first Test of the India versus West Indies series is slated for October 9 and Lara is not likely to feature as he will have to be out of action for six weeks.
