Sehwag fit to play in Super Six opener against Kenya
Thursday, March 6 2003 18:41 Hrs (IST)
Cape Town: India's aggressive opening batsman Virender Sehwag was on Thursday
declared fit to play in the World Cup Super Sixes match against Kenya on Friday.
Sehwag hurt his right index finger during training on Wednesday, but x-rays taken in
hospital later did not reveal a fracture. "Veeru will play," said captain Saurav
Ganguly ahead of the day-night game at Newlands.
"His finger is still a bit sore, but batting will not be a problem." Sehwag has
averaged just 19 runs in six innings at the World Cup and the Indians are hoping the
hard-hitting batsman fires in the second round.
India, which took with it eight points into the Super Sixes, will be virtually
assured of a place in the semi-finals if it defeats Kenya.
