New Delhi: The Indian team has thanked Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for his
congratulatory message and said the gesture would "further
motivate and inspire" the team to win the World Cup.
"It was indeed an honour to receive a message congratulating the Indian cricket team
on its performance in the World Cup," the Indian team said in a letter to the Prime
Minister.
"The team deeply appreciates this gesture and assures Your Honour that with your
good wishes and the support of the entire country, we will be further motivated and
inspired.
"The team is doing its utmost to bring glory to India," the letter, signed by
captain Saurav Ganguly and manager Jyoti Bajpai, said.
The Prime Minister in his letter on Monday had lauded the team for the "spirit and
togetherness" with which it defeated Pakistan and hoped that it would continue with
its winning spree and bring the World Cup home.
The team's letter was sent to the Prime Minister through Rajiv Shukla, MP and
chairman, Media Co-ordination Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India
(BCCI).
