Friday, February 7 2003 17:49 Hrs (IST)

Cape Town: Indian umpire Srinivas Venkataraghavan has been given the honour to officiate in the opening match of the World Cup tournament between South Africa and West Indies on Sunday.

Venkataraghavan and Australia's Daryl Harper have been named the two field umpires while Sri Lanka's Ranjan Madugalle would be the match-referee for the day-night clash at Newlands.

According to the postings announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC), David Shepherd of England and Rudi Koertzen of South Africa will do the duty in the high-voltage league encounter between India and Pakistan in Centurion on March 1. South Africa's Mike Procter will be the match referee.

The ICC has announced the match officials of all the 42 preliminary round games. Nominations for the 12 other games - nine Super Six ties, two semi-finals and the final - will be made later.
