ICC turns down India’s plea to reschedule semi-final
Friday, March 7 2003 19:38 Hrs (IST)
Johannesburg: India's request to have the day-night World Cup semi-final at Durban's
Kingsmead ground on March 20 switched to a daytime affair was rejected on Friday, a
spokesman for the International Cricket Council (ICC) said.
On Thursday, Ali Bacher, the World Cup's executive director, said he would consider
a suggestion from BCCI chief Jagmohan Dalmiya for the match to be switched.
Dalmiya's move came following fears, expressed by India captain Saurav Ganguly among
others, that the day-night format gave the side bowling second a significant
advantage because of increased dew on the pitch.
