3-tier security ring at Motera to prevent crowd trouble
Thursday, November 14 2002 13:21 Hrs (IST)

Ahmedabad: To prevent the unruly crowd behaviour as witnessed in the last three matches at Jamshedpur, Nagpur and Rajkot, a "three-tier security ring" would be thrown around the Motera stadium here, including stationing of commandos near the spectators' stands, during the One-day match on November 15, police said.

This was announced on Thursday at a meeting comprising top police officials incharge of security arrangements at Sardar Patel stadium, Motera and Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) members, on the eve of the crucial day and night One-day International between India and West Indies.

Elaborating deputy inspector general police (Gandhinagar range) Pramod Kumar said, "All vehicles and each spectator would be checked before entering the stadium at least thrice, including metal detector and physical frisking. At least 10 video cameras would be installed to monitor crowd behaviour."

One IPS officer would be present at all at the stands and commandos would be stationed near the spectators stand to prevent any incident, he said.

"For the safety of all, we are preventing spectators from carrying even water bottles and all arrangements for water and food would be made at the venue itself," GCA president Narhari Amin said.
