Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium

Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium, Sri Lanka
Known simply as Hambantota, this stadium seats an official number of 35,000 spectators with floodlights installed this year itself. The stadium will host two World Cup 2011 fixtures - the 3rd match, between Australia and Zimbabwe, from Group A on Feb 20 and 6th match between Kenya and Pakistan also from Group A, on Feb 23. The stadium established in 2009, making it the youngest venue of cricket matches.

The possibility of playing more preparatory matches for the World Cup 2011 was marred by severe rain at the location, which forced authorities to shift scheduled games elsewhere. Alternate venues were sought at Colombo such as the R Premadasa Stadium and the Singhalese Sports Club (SSC).
