| England crushes Zimbabwe by 152 runs Saturday, September 11 2004 19:05 Hrs (IST)

England got their Champions Trophy campaign off to a successful start with a record 152-run win against Zimbabwe at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
The hosts bowled out the Africans for 147 with 11 overs to spare with fast bowlers Darren Gough and Stephen Harmison reducing Zimbabwe to 26 for four inside 10 overs as they replied to England's 299 for seven on Saturday.
All-rounder Andrew Flintoff then chipped in with three for 11.
Elton Chigumbura (42 not out) and Zimbabwe captain Tatenda Taibu (40) both batted well but then the damage had been done.
Earlier Man of the Match Paul Collingwood's unbeaten 80 took England to 299 for seven - their best One-day International score against Zimbabwe.
The Durham all-rounder's 93-ball innings with three sixes and three fours revived England from the depths of 123 for four in a match held over from Friday because of rain.
"It's a hard position (number six) to bat in but I enjoy it and it's very satisfying when you do a good job well," said Collingwood between innings.
"It gives you the chance to get in now and then when there's few early wickets that go down early. But I enjoy the job and hopefully I can get a few more scores like that."
Afterwards Gough started the rout when Brendan Taylor was lbw for six in the fifth over before he had Stuart Matsikenyeri (four) taken by Collingwood at backward point.
Then Harmison took over with a double-wicket maiden in the 10th over. He combined with wicketkeeper Geraint Jones to have Dion Ebrahim (three) and Mark Vermeulen (nought) caught behind.
Harmison finished with three for 29 from his 10 overs. Vusi Sibanda hooked Harmison for six after he'd been dropped in the slips by Flintoff on 14.
But the all-rounder, recently crowned One-Day International Player of the Year, ended Sibanda's innings when he beat his defensive stroke and bowled him for 28.
Taibu twice hooked Alex Wharf for six before falling in unlucky fashion when, having swept left-arm spinner Ashley Giles, he over-balanced and was out hit wicket having faced 61 balls.
He had shared a run-a-ball stand of 42 with Chigumbura but the game had long been out of Zimbabwe's reach.
Flintoff then took two wickets in three balls, Prosper Utseya (five) caught at fine leg by Gough and Douglas Hondo (nought) brilliantly taken by a leaping Marcus Trescothick in the slips before Giles ended the game by having Edward Rainsford caught behind.
England resumed on 198 for five with 12 overs of their innings left and added a further 101 runs on Saturday.
Collingwood was 35 not out and Jones 23 not out after opener Vikram Solanki had made 62.
After Jones fell for a One-day International best of 38, Collingwood hoisted paceman Hondo for two sixes in successive balls.
Together with Giles (23) he put on 75 in 49 balls before Giles was run out in the last over.
In their final pool matches, Zimbabwe face Sri Lanka at The Oval on Tuesday with England playing the Champions Trophy co-holders on Friday at the Rose Bowl.
