| West Indies restrict England despite Trescothick century Saturday, September 25 2004 19:02 Hrs (IST)

Marcus Trescothick hit 104 as England made 217 all out in the ICC Champions Trophy final against the West Indies in London at the Oval.
Apart from Ashley Giles, who made 31 and shared a stand of 63 for the seventh wicket with Trescothick, the Somerset opener was the only batsman to make a significant contribution on Saturday.
He reached his eighth One-day hundred for England from 122 balls with 13 fours.
Wavell Hinds took 3-24 with his medium-pace ripping through the England middle order backed up by some superb fielding from the West Indian side - particularly Brian Lara who had a hand in four dismissals including the run out of Trescothick in the 48th over.
Hinds' figures were his best in One-day International cricket and when he came on to bowl in the 23rd over England were 93 for three with Trescothick well-set and the dangerous Andrew Flintoff at the crease.
Flintoff smashed Hinds' first ball low to mid-wicket where Lara hung onto an astonishing left-handed catch to send the English all-rounder back to the pavilion for just three. It was Lara's 100th catch in One-day Internationals and a memorable way to reach the landmark.
Paul Collingwood and Trescothick then got bogged down with Collingwood taking 40 balls to score 16 before his frustration got the better of him and he slogged Hinds straight up in the air to Shivnarine Chanderpaul in the deep.
Geraint Jones also struggled to get the West Indian bowlers away and fell victim to another smart catch by Lara when he whipped Hinds to mid-wicket.
After being put in by Lara England started cautiously and Trescothick had a life in the third over when he got a leading edge to Ian Bradshaw and the ball narrowly evaded mid-on.
Vikram Solanki was first to go with England on 12 when he played an unconvincing shot to Bradshaw and was caught behind.
Captain Michael Vaughan hit the first four of the innings in the seventh over but that back foot drive apart never got going and dragged a ball from Bradshaw back onto his stumps.
Andrew Strauss and Trescothick put on 41 for the third wicket with Strauss looking in the same vein of form that saw him hit a quick half-century against Australia in the semi-final before he was run out for 18.
Trescothick played a ball from Dwayne Bravo a few yards up the wicket and called for a run but the bowler was first to react and following through hit the stumps with Strauss short of his ground.
