BCCI to challenge HC judgement
Tuesday, October 5 2004 18:28 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: The Cricket Board today said before the Supreme Court that it would challenge the Delhi High Court judgement holding that BCCI was open to judicial review under the Constitution in discharge of its public duties and function.

This was stated by BCCI counsel K K Venugopal during the hearing of a writ petition filed by Zee TV challenging the Boards's decision to cancel tender process for award of telecast rights for all cricket matches held in India between 2004-2008.

While admitting a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed in year 2000 questioning the functioning of the Board involving huge public money, the court had said the cricket body was open to judicial review in discharge of its public duties and a writ could lie against it.
