Sehwag summoned for misconduct
Sunday, October 10 2004 10:15 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: India's batsman Virender Sehwag was summoned for a hearing by match referee Ranjan Madugalle for misconduct during the first Test against Australia here.

Sehwag was seen exchanging words with umpire Billy Bowden of New Zealand and the Australian players after being given out leg-before off Glenn McGrath in the post-lunch session of the fourth day on Saturday.

The batsman was unlucky to be given out as television replays showed the ball hit the pad off the inside edge of the bat.

Madugalle told AFP Sehwag had apologised during a meeting which was also attended by Indian coach John Wright and umpires Bowden and Steve Bucknor.

"I will announce my verdict on Sunday," Madugalle said.

Under International Cricket Council (ICC) regulations, Sehwag could be fined his match fees or even banned for one match.

India face a heavy defeat in the first Test of the four-match series. The hosts, set a target of 457, ended the fourth day at 105-6.
