Kanpur brace up for South Africa Test
Sunday, October 10 2004 16:37 Hrs (IST)

Kanpur: The Green Park Cricket Stadium, slated to host the first cricket Test between India and South Africa next month, is undergoing a facelift.

The stadium, set to host a Test after a gap of five years, would come alive for five days from November 20 and the local authorities are not leaving any stone unturned to make sure that the ground is ready well ahead of time.

Kanpur Cricket Association President Naimuddin Siddiqui said that BCCI's Pitch Committee Chairman Venkat Sundaram, had visited the venue to inspect the new pitch which has being prepared and instructed the KCA to conduct a few matches before October 20 to test the strip.

He said the levelling work on the ground was in the final stages while the drainage work and planting of fresh grass had already been completed.

In the last Test played here in 1999, India beat New Zealand by eight wickets.
